the new light-bulb – minimalux

London-based design brand Minimalux is showing this simple yet dazzling lamp at this year’s London Design Festival (ends today – 25 September). Shaped like a traditional incandescent light bulb, the design is understated yet iconic at the same time – so much that Minimalux has named the lamp Bulb.

Yet unlike its humble everyday counterpart, this lamp is pure luxury – a hand-blown opal glass orb comprises the main bulb, which rests upon a glimmering brass stand.

By transforming the familiar light-bulb into a decorative, artistic object, Minimalux suggest the archaic, soon to be obsolete nature of the everyday item, as this floor-resting Bulb demonstrates. Design is constantly proposing new ways to circumvent the light-bulb.

Love the London Design Festival? So does INTOFORM! Check out my coverage of Dominic Wilcox and the Bouroullec brothers in London at the moment.
