natural sound – joon&jung

Korean-Dutch design studio Joon&Jung create everyday household designs that combine the influence of Dutch product design – often experimental, minimalist and innovative – with their native Korean aesthetics.

Their new individually crafted Natural Speakers are composed of simple porcelain hollow punctured structures resting on a base of stacked wood. The resulting speakers allow the sound to breath and project more clearly.

“Whereas a lot of speakers are constructed to produce a rather fat bass and sharp high tones, we felt the sound was kind of stuck inside the speakers, missing a natural vibe and ambiance. During the development of the ‘thenatural speaker’ we discovered the great properties of porcelain as a speaker casing, providing a clear resonance and mellow sound,” say the designers, Joonsoo Kim and Jungyou Choi.

The combination of ceramic and wood allows the sound to amplify, reflect and resonate, giving a more natural and realistic sounding effect, as if the music is being played live right in front of you!
