broken houses – ofra lapid

Israeli artist Ofra Lapid has photographed models of dilapidated buildings in this series Broken Houses. After recreating decrepit structures Lapid would photograph them against grey backgrounds, making them look like studio-shot Gordon Matta Clark houses.

Taken out of context they have an alien dystopia about them; man’s neglect is present but simultaneously forgotten, and the remaining buildings seem to have no grounding in time or place.
